Anushka

Anushka is a contemporary painter whose practice explores the relationship between landscape, architecture, and memory through the medium of oil painting. Working from direct observation, she creates atmospheric landscapes that examine how places retain the traces of history, identity, and human presence.

As a British-Indian artist, Anushka is particularly interested in the enduring dialogue between Britain and the Indian subcontinent. Her paintings investigate the subtle legacies of cultural exchange and empire as they remain embedded within the landscape, revealing histories that continue to shape contemporary experience.

While grounded in observational realism, her work extends beyond documentation to evoke an emotional and reflective response. Through the careful use of light, color, and layered brushwork, she seeks to reveal the intangible qualities that exist beneath the visible surface. For Anushka, painting is an act of attentive observation and contemplation, inviting viewers to slow down and consider landscapes as quiet witnesses to the stories, histories, and memories that continue to inform our collective understanding of place.
